D.H.Bond carried out the excavation of the new basement by firstly underpinning a flank of the existing building in sections. We then formed a diaphragm wall around two sides, due to the basements proximity to the boundary and existing trees that had to be saved. The remaining sides were battered back safely and the basement drainage installed. The reinforcement, shuttering and construction of the slab and walls were carried out in stages using Caltite waterproof concrete placed with a crane pump.
Due to the existing and proposed levels on site, the foul drainage from the basement had to enter the new, deep pump chamber at a low level. D.H.Bond therefore had to sink a deep shaft using closed trench sheets and two hydraulic steel frames. Once the required depth had been reached, a reinforced concrete base was formed and the tank then gently lowered into the excavation using our 13 tonne excavator. All relevant pipework was then connected and the rest of the foul and surface water drainage completed. D.H.Bond also carried out extensive service trenching and external preparation.
