Walnut House, Henley-on-Thames

Walnut House, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

Access and space were very limited on this project, so great care was taken and careful planning applied. Firstly all the block paving from the front driveway was photographed, taken up and carefully stacked on pallets ready to be re-laid upon completion.
Most of the rear elevation of the house was then underpinned down past the depth of the new basement and a diaphragm wall formed around one end and most of the long side. The first part of the excavation was then carried out, with the arisings carted to the front and loaded away on tippers. The drainage and sump were installed and the reinforcement for the slab and wall starters was tied before the waterproof concrete slab was poured using our 13 tonne excavator. The first part of the wall reinforcement and shuttering was then carried out and locked into position with props. Due to lack of reach and access the first wall pour was carried out by carefully craning a boom pump over the house from the front. The formwork was then struck and the process repeated to construct the second part of the basement.
